About Sportswise
This website/blog is dedicated to youth and youth sports. Specifically, we are interested in providing valuable information to parents and coaches of youth sports that will further enable them to maintain a healthy environment in which our youth may grow and develop while having fun. We believe that youth athletics is an excellent vehicle for kids to learn life skills with a smile; not because they have to, but because they want to. What better place to learn to take responsibility than in a team sport with other kids? We had five opportunities in which to develop these theories and practices. Hopefully you, our readers, can add to our thoughts and ideas so that all may benefit.
A little background about us:
Joy has a B.A. in Child Development and Family Relations from Brigham Young University, and hands-on experience of teaching and raising 5 children. She has been active in youth programs, child care, nursery programs, homeschooling, public school volunteer work, and as a team parent for a variety of sports, including soccer, baseball, basketball, softball, tennis, track, and gymnastics.
Grover has a B.A. in Political Science from Brigham Young University, and a J.D. from John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He set up his own law practice in 1976. In addition he has participated in, or has coached, baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer over the last 30 years. He has received several awards, and has been recruited for All star and community summer leagues as well. The California climate allowed for year round sports participation.
We are currently working on a book entitled Sportswise: A Guide to Youth Athletics.
